Onwards and upwards as they say. Welcome Tony. Please help lift our club out of the hole we're currently in.
I personally feel that a local owner is great news. Really hope he puts any contacts he may have to great use.

I've been trying to get hold of a transcript of the Q&A's at the recent fans forum on Thursday that Tony Smith attended. I've contacted D.S. but received a somewhat evasive reply which just said that it had been "well reported"
I've supported the club since the early days and got behind a succession of owners but don't like to be kept in the dark. I now live closer to Manchester than Sheffield and can't get to fan forums and supporters club meetings.
Can anyone provide me with a link as the club website is no help whatsoever and the club's PR person doesn't seem interested.

I've 'borrowed' the below from a post by Heanor Lair on The Cage - hope he/they don't mind as I think it more or less sums things up (Panthers bias aside obviously!)

Glad to see a new owner, the main reason being that I don't think Regan splitting his time between us & the Devils was the best thing for us

Where did the Smith doesn't like Ragan statement come from in the report? He said no such thing! He said that Ragan is not a bad man and didnt want people thinking badly of him. He just didnt have the time to run 38 companies, continue with his charity work as well as running 2 hockey clubs. Funny how the transcript for the forum came from 2 steeltalk mods!

I'm disappointed that the shop won't be opening in Meadowhall, would have been a great way in attracting more fans. I've read somewhere that they are still trying to get one one somewhere, Ice Sheffield was mentioned. I think we should look at the way Braehead promote the team - there are posters all around their major shopping centre

Hi Guys
I've had many a business (hockey) conversation with Tony Smith, as a local guy who's been around in business a very long time, he talks common sense, I think he's exactly what the club needs right now.
Although I'm a fan of them down the M1, IMHO a strong Steelers club is a must for the league, for the Panthers and for hockey industry in general (which includes my own business).
The idea of having a shop in Meadowhell was ridiculous, yes you guys need a shop but the rent and rates in that place are enormous and would have been a disaster waiting to happen.

I suppose that's why none of the local football clubs have one

Absolutely, unless you are one of the usual multi chain retail stores a small retail shop doesn't stand a chance - you're spot on with football teams not being there and their fan base is much larger.
The only way you could possibly do it is to do a deal with a shop who's already there, but then there are commissions to pay or wholesale prices to arrange - the best way is a small shop, say on Attercliffe road and a bloody good e-commerce website.

It's a nightmare trying to get hold of Steelers merchandise, I'm after one of the Steelers black polo shirts which I've seen loads of people wearing & haven't got a clue where to get them. Even eBay only brings up 20-odd results for "Sheffield Steelers"
